Heart Rate Monitor Sale

Reference:  Book: Permanent Diabetes Control, page 82

HEART RATE: The pulse rate, or the heartbeat, can be sensed and counted by touching some areas such as the wrist, neck or the top of the foot where the artery passes closest to the skin. The pulse rate is counted by placing the index finger over and middle finger under the wrist, and by pressing firmly until the pulse is sensed.

The acceleration and deceleration of blood and vibration of the heart cause the sound of heartbeat. The adult average heartbeat is 72 times per minute. The normal heart rate while resting is as follows:

      Type of People

             Beats Per Minute

Infants

100 to 160 beats per minute

Children (1 to 10 years)

70 to 120 beats per minute

Children (over 10 years)

60 to 100 beats per minute

Adults of all ages

60 to 100 beats per minute

Trained Athletes

40 to 60 beats per minute

If the pulse rate is not within the normal range as indicated above, something is wrong, and the person should stop exercising and should consult a healthcare professional.

The maximum heart rate and target heart rate can be calculated:

Maximum Heart Rate = 220 bpm (beats per minute) – Age
Target Heart Rate = 60 to 70% of Maximum Heart Rate

Example 6.4 (Book: Permanent Diabetes Control)
A 50-year-old person is weighing 70 Kg.
Maximum Heart Rate = 220 – 50 = 170 bpm
70% of Maximum Heart Rate = 0.70 x 170 = 119 bpm
60% of Maximum Heart Rate = 0.60 x 170 = 102 bpm
His target heart rate should be between 102 bpm and 119 bpm
, which is safe for this person at any level of intensity of a particular activity.

Step Pedometers / Step Counters
A pedometer or step counter is a simple device used to measure the number of steps you take in a day.
When it's positioned correctly, the pedometer records a step each time your hip moves up and down. The step counter also measures things you do throughout your day besides walking, like bending to tie your shoes. Those movements count too! In order to wear it, attach the pedometer or step counter to your belt or waistband near the front of your hipbone.
